One woman's search for knowledge, truth, beauty, serenity, peace, harmony and all that crap.

Thank you for all your prayers. The result is that I found a lovely home in suburban Phoenix. It's actually the house I had pictured in my head.

I really don't want to seem ungrateful. I mean God has provided me with a good job, a house I love, my children are here with me safe and sound. Phoenix is really a beautiful city. The desert colors are gorgeous. Even the heat is not to bad. (The next person that says it's a dry heat is getting b-witch-slapped.)
But...
I am really homesick.
Aside from my babies, everybody I care about is back in Wisconsin enjoying the gentle, green, cooler-by-the-lake summer.

I know I can call and e-mail. It's not the same.

I am lonely.

Pity party for me.

I'm sorry you are feeling homesick. It takes time to feel like your new house and city is home.

Even the heat is not to bad. (The next person that says it's a dry heat is getting b-witch-slapped.)

This was great. Hang in there.

There is always an adjustment period.  I hope yours is short.  As you meat and become friends with some people, the loneliness will go away.  You will never stop missing your home in Wi.  But it will not be as depressing.

Yea, I agree with both Kelly and Doc. It will take time and adjusting will be a while but eventually you'll get used to it. You're going to still miss Wisconsin but think about how much fun you'll have visiting!

Enjoy (!) your pity party as much as possible. Can't say I've been in your shoes on this one, but I will send prayers that the "Phoenix is home" part of your life starts sooner than later. Count your blessings, blah blah blah... Yes I was homesick last week on vacation too.

And dry heat or not - heat is heat!

I'm sitting in Wisconsin right now and it's hot as blazes. The folks here are complaining about how it isn't a "Wisconsin summer".

Ms. M,

Hey, I have been there SO MANY times. Moving on, finding a new home, new friends. There is a certain excitement to the move, but then the reality sets in and suddenly you find yourself alone in this strange place--why are you here?

But in a few weeks you'll start to feel more at home. You'll find that you're reaching out to others and people will respond to you and want to know your stories. Soon you'll be going to dinners, picnics with other moms, etc., etc. Hang in there...it sounds like a GREAT area to live in!

Congrats on finding the home you had pictured in your mind
I know how hard it is to move away from your home! I was born and raised in Wi. and here, only in Mn. it's not the same.

You will make friends though! and eventually the lonliness and out of sorts feelings will lessen, til you almost have none of those.

My kid sister is in Arizona, if you ever want to email me to connect with her, let me know.

Thanks Trudy. It's getting better now that the job has started. I'm meeting colleagues and I'm too busy to whine. I'm getting to know the church folks. The kids start school next Tuesday. The structure (uniforms and all) will do them a world of good.
